The squash tail was actually the original design direction when developing the   SS-2, a board shaped with input from Kolohe Andino and Julian Wilson as a flat, fast, no-nonsense small wave weapon. While the Double Wing Swallow version was ultimately released in 2013, the bump squash tail quietly remained in the background—until it began delivering major results on the world stage.

Notably, Carissa Moore and Tyler Wright rode this version to back-to-back victories at the US Open of Surfing in 2013 and 2014. Their success highlighted what this board is capable of in the hands of powerful, committed surfers.

Built around a low-rocker platform, the SS-2 Squash demands engagement. It doesn’t offer passive glide or flow—it asks the surfer to drive hard through turns, especially off the back foot. Designed for open-faced, softer waves, it responds with speed and projection when pushed with authority. The outline features a slight bump into a squash tail, adding control and pivot in turns without sacrificing down-the-line speed.

The stock dimensions are tailored more toward younger, advanced surfers and were never optimized for mass-market retail. It’s a board shaped for performance, not compromise.

Pros:

* Extremely fast and drivey in small to medium surf.
* Excellent projection off the tail when surfed with power.
* Proven in competition at the highest level.
* Squash tail adds control without killing speed.

Cons:

* Low rocker requires an assertive, rear-foot-heavy approach.
* Less suitable for relaxed, cruise-oriented surfers.
* Stock dims may not suit average recreational riders without adjustment.

Summary:
The SS-2 Squash Tail is a fast, flat, and highly responsive small wave board for advanced surfers who thrive on power surfing. With roots in elite performance and a proven track record under world champions, it rewards committed turns and aggressive back-foot control. Not built for the masses—but a standout weapon for the right surfer.
