WATCH NOEL SALAS' REVIEW >

The RNF RETRO is …Lost’s reinterpretation of the classic 1970s-style fish, infused with modern performance through unconventional design thinking. With generous dimensions, a low rocker, flat deck, steep rails, and a wide tail, it offers effortless paddle power, instant speed, and glide in even the most marginal conditions.

What sets the RNF RETRO apart from the sea of traditional fish designs is its use of snowboard-inspired sidecut in the outline—a feature previously seen in …Lost’s Pelagic model over a decade ago. While sidecut outlines have long been part of San Diego’s shaping heritage (notably Mirandon and Caster), their use here is evolved and deliberate.

The board features two reverse-radius sidecuts:

* One runs between the feet, just behind the wide point.
* The second, tighter cut sits directly under the rear foot, replacing the traditional wing or hip.

This innovative contouring allows the RNF RETRO to retain speed while initiating tighter, more controlled carves, even with its flat rocker and wide, parallel outline. Rather than slipping or bogging, it locks into the face of the wave, providing a rail-driven feel that’s both intuitive and explosive. It’s a retro-inspired shape—but with far more bite, control, and finesse than its predecessors.

Pros:

* Exceptional paddle power and wave-catching ease.
* Unique sidecut outline offers surprising control and tight turning radius.
* Locks into the wave face—no slide-outs or rail bogging in turns.
* Perfect for cruisy, stylish surfing with modern responsiveness.

Cons:

* Best suited for small to medium surf—lacks performance in hollow or powerful waves.
* Flat rocker may limit vertical surfing or steep pocket transitions.
* Advanced surfers may desire more projection in bigger surf or more progressive boards.

Summary:

The RNF RETRO is a distinctly modern take on a classic fish, blending the glide and flow of retro design with the precision of snowboard-inspired sidecuts. It’s designed to carve, cruise, and fly through smaller surf with confidence and style. Ideal for surfers seeking an alternative craft with personality and performance, the RNF RETRO doesn’t just look different—it feels different, in the best way.
