RNF Redux

WATCH BOARDSHOP'S REVIEW >

To celebrate the 20-year anniversary of the iconic surf film *5'5” x 19 1/4”*, …Lost has reimagined one of its most defining shapes: the RNF-Classic. The RNF-REDUX is a modern evolution that blends the high-performance agility of the original '90s RNF with the glide and accessibility of the post-2000 RNF-Quint, resulting in a lively and versatile twin-fin hybrid that thrives across a wide range of conditions.

The RNF-Classic known for its pulled-in nose and tail, flatter rocker, and pocket-friendly responsiveness—was the foundation. The Quint version added volume, a wider tail, and grovel-friendly design inspired by MR’s influence and the early quad-fin revolution. For the REDUX, …Lost combined the drive, paddle power, and speed of the Quint with the radical performance potential of the Classic, creating a board that’s just as comfortable hacking tight arcs in quality surf as it is flowing across weak beach break.

At the heart of the design is a double sidecut outline and a fluted wing into a narrowed swallow tail, which together create a crisp pivot point under the rear foot. This allows the board to snap through turns with surprising precision—especially in the pocket—while maintaining the "glidey flow" of a fish. The board features a very low centerline rocker, subtle concave under the front foot, and vee through the tail for control and easy rail transitions.

For fin setup, the RNF-REDUX is ultra-versatile. Designed primarily as a twin (with vintage-style fin placement and 5” bases set slightly back), it can also be surfed as:

Twin + trailer (MR-style 2+1)
Twin + quad (small side bites for added grip)
Quad, split keel quad, or even a thruster

This makes the RNF-REDUX adaptable to a huge range of styles, preferences, and conditions.

Pros:

* Blends retro feel with modern performance—fun in weak surf, sharp in good waves.
* Low rocker and added volume make for excellent paddling and easy wave-catching.
* Unique tail and rail combo enables tight turning and rail engagement.
* Extremely versatile with a variety of fin setups for different feels and wave types.
* Great option for both experimental surfers and seasoned pros.

Cons:

* Not a pure high-performance shortboard—less ideal for vertical surfing in hollow surf.
* Some setups (like pure twin) may feel loose or lack control for heavier-footed riders.
* Might take adjustment time for surfers unfamiliar with wide outlines or twin-fin sensations.

Summary:

The RNF-REDUX is a thoughtfully re-engineered hybrid fish that merges the best attributes of the RNF-Classic and RNF-Quint into a modern twin-fin machine. From fast, flat grovel sessions to clean, carving days, it delivers lively performance, versatile fin options, and vintage charm—all wrapped in a forward-thinking design. It’s a one-board quiver for surfers who want to keep the fun high and the friction low, while still holding the ability to surf radically, rail-to-rail, when the opportunity arises.
