Mikey's Shorty

<WATCH CI BREAKDOWN HERE>

The Shorty taps back into Mikey February’s high-performance roots, but keeps the smooth, stylish feel he’s known for. Designed with Britt Merrick, it lands right between the Two Happy and the 2.Pro—mixing control, flow, and responsiveness without leaning too far in either direction.

Pros:

  • Well-balanced feel:
Not too stiff, not too loose. It has a nice blend of control and freedom that works in a variety of conditions.
  • Staged rocker works:
Easy to generate speed, but still holds in steeper sections. Feels comfortable whether you surf more off the front foot or back foot.
  • Tighter turning in the pocket:
The slight hip near the fins helps the board pivot a bit quicker when you need it.
  • Good mix of speed and flow:
Carries speed naturally, and transitions feel smooth without getting tracky.
  • Sensitive but not twitchy:
Foiled rails give you feedback and control without feeling overly technical.
  • More range than a pure shortboard:
Works in a wider range of waves than something like a 2.Pro.

Cons:

  • Still not a beginner board:
It’s more forgiving than a true high-performance shortboard, but you still need decent fundamentals.
  • Not great in weak surf:
Doesn’t have the extra foam or width to really shine in small, soft waves.
  • Not as sharp as full pro models:
If you want that super reactive, competition-style feel, this sits a notch below boards like the CI Pro or 2.Pro.

Verdict:

The Shorty feels like a middle ground done right. It’s performance-focused, but not overly demanding, with a smooth, fast feel that fits a lot of different waves. A solid option for surfers who want to push performance without going all-in on a super technical board.
