The Mashup is a unique collaboration between Rob Machado and Dan Mann, blending the best qualities of Rob’s Seaside and Dan’s Spitfire into one versatile hybrid designed to perform across a wide range of conditions. This board delivers the speed and paddle power of the Seaside in weaker surf, while offering the vertical drive and responsivenessof the Spitfire in better waves.

Recommended for 1–5’ surf, especially in average to poor or flat conditions, the Mashup immediately feels lively and buoyant underfoot. Its hybrid nose maintains plenty of volume and paddle power up front, while step rails toward the tail add extra lift and control. The bottom features a double concave that intensifies from center to tail, providing excellent water flow and quick rail-to-rail transitions.

Whether you’re chasing speed on soft, mushy waves or driving hard in punchier conditions, the Mashup is the ultimate everyday groveler—fast, loose, and surprisingly agile.

Pros:

  • Combines paddle power and speed with vertical drive and control

  • Versatile performance across a wide range of small to medium waves

  • Double concave bottom enhances responsiveness and water flow

  • Step rails add lift and stability without sacrificing maneuverability

  • Ideal for surfers seeking a do-it-all hybrid board

Cons:

  • Not designed for large or heavy surf conditions

  • May feel less specialized for high-performance surfing compared to pure shortboards

  • The wider nose may limit tight turns in very steep waves

Summary:
The Mashup perfectly fuses the playful speed of the Seaside with the sharper, more aggressive drive of the Spitfire. It’s a highly adaptable groveler that excels in small to medium, average-to-poor waves, making it a go-to board you’ll want to keep ready in your quiver. With its thoughtful design and hybrid DNA, the Mashup offers speed, buoyancy, and control—all in one fast, fun package.
