The Xero Fusion is JS Industries' latest addition to the Xero family—a high-performance yet user-friendly board designed to light up flatter-faced waves. Positioned between the all-around Xero Gravity and the ultra-grovelly Sub Xero, the Fusion fills a vital role in any well-rounded quiver: a small-wave step-down that doesn't compromise on performance.

This model carries forward the legacy of the Blak Box series by utilizing its proven low-to-flat rocker for instant acceleration and glide through soft sections. However, it’s not just a reissue—it’s a modern upgrade. The Xero Fusion features an updated outline with more curve nose to tail, enhanced by a narrower swallow tail that increases responsiveness and flow in weaker conditions. It retains volume strategically through the center and rails but pulls the rails down for added bite and sensitivity, especially at higher speeds or in critical sections.

Under the hood, a single-to-double concave setup adds lift and control where it counts, flowing from under the front foot into the fin area. JS has brought back the "reverse concave" approach—deeper in the center and shallower at the ends—which maximizes water flow and delivers noticeable speed and drive.

For everyday surfers, this board offers a balance of paddle power and control, while still being sharp and lively underfoot. For the pros on the Traktor Team, it’s their go-to board for 1–3 ft surf where precision is still key. Whether you’re faced with crumbly beach breaks or soft point waves, the Xero Fusion brings a competitive edge without sacrificing fun.

Pros

  • Proven Rocker Design: Based on the iconic Blak Box, it flies through flat spots and accelerates instantly.

  • Small Wave Performance: Perfectly tuned for 1–3 ft surf, from mush to punchy walls.

  • Responsive Tail Design: Swallow tail and modern outline add extra pivot and control.

  • Balanced Rail Volume: Medium-full rails offer forgiveness while remaining sensitive in the pocket.

  • Versatile Concave Setup: Single to double concave enhances lift and speed without compromising control.

Cons

  • Limited in Hollow or Powerful Surf: Designed for flatter faces, it’s not ideal for steep drops or overhead barrels.

  • Performance Tuning May Not Suit Beginners: While user-friendly, it's still a tuned instrument for surfers with some experience.

  • Not a Full Groveller: Less volume than the Sub Xero, so not ideal for absolute junk surf or beginners needing extra float.

Final Verdict

The Xero Fusion hits a sweet spot in JS Industries’ lineup—a small wave weapon that remains lively, fast, and sharp when the surf turns soft. It’s a high-performance step-down board that rewards rail engagement and speed generation, without punishing you for lackluster conditions. Ideal for intermediate to advanced surfers looking to bring their best surfing to average days, the Fusion brings a refined, modern twist to a time-tested rocker and shape philosophy.
