BEACH BUGGY 2 REVIEW >

SURFBOARD GUIDE'S REVIEW >

The Beach Buggy, derived from the Whiplash-TB, takes pro-level performance and packages it for the broader public. Initially made famous by Taj Burrow’s win at the 2013 Hurley Pro, it’s since been fine-tuned into a board that works as well for QS grinders and solid weekend surfers alike.

Featuring TB’s signature tail rocker, the board snaps tight turns with ease, but a more relaxed entry and center rocker paired with a wider nose and tail block give it extra drive, stability, and small-wave lift. The Beach Buggy offers solid performance in junk surf while still holding up in good waves a rare balance in high-performance designs.

Designed to be ridden 1–2” shorter than the Whiplash-TB, the board has increased volume carried through the rails, nose, and tail, offering a broader sweet spot and better paddle power.

Pros:

*Elite-level performance with everyday accessibility
*Great in junk surf more drive and lift at low speeds
*Tight turning off the tail thanks to extended tail rocker
*Stable and forgiving platform for landing airs and tricks
*Still precise not bloated like many grovelers

Cons:

*Not a true groveler likes at least waist-high waves to shine
*Less suited for very small or very fat waves
*Still favors back-footed, performance surfers
*Needs a confident rider not ideal for total beginners

Summary:

The Beach Buggy bridges the gap between pro shortboard and everyman high-performance blade. It’s built for surfers who want to rip but aren’t competing on tour—and don’t always surf perfect waves. A versatile daily driver for intermediate to advanced surfers, it offers legit performance without punishing the average Joe.
