A Responsive Evolution Rooted in the GrinderX

The SpearFish draws design inspiration from the Banjo Fish theory and builds upon the popular GrinderX model. Its most striking feature is the distinctive outline: from the widepoint to the hip, the curve straightens significantly, reducing surface area between the feet and creating a more streamlined profile. Beyond the hip, the tail section curves sharply into a narrowed tail block, promoting quick rail-to-rail transitions and a shorter turning radius. To balance the reduced tail surface, the nose outline is slightly fuller, maintaining overall volume and paddle power.

Performance-wise, the SpearFish shares the GrinderX’s moderate rocker and single concave running through the board, enhanced by a double concave inset between the fins for lift and drive. A subtle vee off the tail introduces additional rail rocker, improving bite and maneuverability. Additionally, a short channel off the tail starting about 7 inches up reduces pressure and adds speed and hold.

Pros:

  • Unique straightened outline forward improves responsiveness and rail-to-rail transitions

  • Narrowed tail block shortens turning radius for quick, sharp maneuvers

  • Nose fullness balances volume lost in the tail, aiding paddle and stability

  • Channel off tail enhances speed and grip on the wave face

  • Concave and vee combination delivers lift, control, and rail bite

Cons:

  • Reduced tail surface may feel less stable in softer or mushy waves

  • Design demands precise control; best suited for intermediate to advanced surfers

Summary:
The SpearFish is a refined, performance-driven board that evolves the GrinderX platform with a bold, responsive outline and modern contouring. Its straightened forward curve and narrow tail block deliver agile rail-to-rail transitions and tight turns, while the added vee and tail channel enhance speed and control. Ideal for surfers seeking a lively, high-performance shortboard that excels in a variety of conditions.
