Twinthetic

The Twinthetic is a bold and nostalgic reimagining of the beloved "Synthetic 84," now reengineered as a modern twin fin with high-performance flair. Offered with either a single wing round pin or single wing swallow tail, this board blends 1980s-inspired design with today’s surfboard engineering for a unique ride experience that celebrates the past while charging into the future.

The board features a flat deck with a beak nose, evoking the aesthetics of retro performance shortboards while maximizing paddle power and volume. A sharper, semi-down rail enhances control at speed, and the pulled-back twin fin placement delivers an unexpected level of drive and hold, even in steeper or more hollow waves—an area where many traditional twin fins fall short.

Its bottom contour begins with a single concave under the front foot, flowing into a double concave with vee off the tail, promoting effortless transitions and quick rail-to-rail movement. The overall feel is fast, skatey, and loose—but with more bite and hold than your average twin.

Surfers are advised to size the Twinthetic 1/16–1/8 inch thinner than their usual shortboard, due to the flat deck carrying volume further out to the rails.

Pros:

  • Retro-inspired design with modern performance

  • Twin fin setup with rearward placement offers surprising hold and drive

  • High paddle power thanks to generous volume and flat deck

  • Versatile tail options for tuning to surf style and conditions

  • Fast, fluid, and responsive in a range of wave types

Cons:

  • Not ideal for critical, vertical surfing compared to a thruster

  • The unique twin fin feel may take time to adjust to for traditional shortboard riders

Summary:
The Twinthetic merges classic 80s style with progressive twin fin functionality. Its smart blend of volume, fin placement, and bottom contours makes it a standout choice for surfers seeking something fresh without sacrificing performance. Ideal for intermediate to advanced surfers looking to loosen up their approach while maintaining speed and control—especially in waves from waist-high to well overhead.
