Precision-Built Performance for Critical Surfing

The Alan Cleland File is a finely tuned performance shortboard, developed in collaboration with 2023 ISA World Champion Alan Cleland Jr. Built off the foundation of the popular IF15, this board delivers the same speed and forgiveness but in a design tailored for tighter turns, steeper faces, and more technical rail work.

Key Design Elements

  • Deck: Transitioned from the IF15’s flat deck to a dome deck, shifting foam away from the rails and concentrating thickness along the stringer. The result: better rail engagement and smoother transitions.

  • Rails: Low and refined, offering sharp responsiveness and bite in critical sections—perfect for advanced carving and pocket surfing.

  • Outline: Sleeker and narrower, promoting quick pivoting and tighter arcs.

  • Bottom Contour: Single concave throughout keeps the board fast and connected while improving lift and control.

  • Rocker: Medium entry and tail rocker, maintaining the IF15’s versatility while enhancing performance in steep, fast waves.

Performance

The Alan Cleland File is designed for surfers who thrive under pressure—inside the pocket, deep in the bowl, or hitting a critical lip section. It’s nimble, sharp, and reactive, favoring riders who want to carve with power and link fast transitions.

Due to the lower rail volume, it’s recommended to order this board 1/16" to 1/8" thicker than your standard performance shortboard.

Pros

  • Exceptional control and drive in steep, technical conditions

  • Lighter, more sensitive rail feel for critical maneuvers

  • Balanced rocker and concave keep it fast but controllable

  • Developed and tested by a world-class competitor

Cons

  • Less rail volume may feel twitchy or overly sensitive for casual surfers

  • Better suited for intermediate to advanced riders

  • Not optimized for weak or gutless waves

Summary
The Alan Cleland File is a serious performance board built for surfers who want to go vertical, carve hard, and perform in the pocket. It refines the strengths of the IF15 into a shape that’s more precise, more responsive, and more tuned for critical surfing. If you’re pushing your limits in powerful waves, this is the board to meet you there.
